New Education Policy 2024 :- On 29th July 2020 the union cabinet has approved the New National Education Policy for schooling and Higher Education. The new national education policy has replaced the old education policy after 34 years which was launched way back in 1986. The new education policy is based on 4 main pillars. These pillars are assess, equity, quality and accountability. It replaces the old 10 + 2 structure with the new 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 structure of schooling.

Government of India desired to make Indian education system as a global knowledge superpower and it will be only done by making changes in the education system for schooling and colleges. Through this new education policy the government desire to make the education system more flexible, holistic and multi disciplinary which will bring out their unique capabilities. Objective Of New National Education Policy

The main motive of the Government of India behind upgrading the New National Education Policy is to make India a global knowledge superpower. The New Education Policy 2024 is based on 4 main pillars access, equity, quality and accountability. There will be 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 structure which comprise 12 years of schooling and 3 years of Anganwadi / pre- schooling.  The new education system for schooling and college will be more flexible holistic and multidisciplinary.

Main Features Of National Education Policy

There are a lot of changes in the National Education Policy and some of the features of new national education policy are as under:

  • School education reform
    • New education policy is focused on foundational literacy and numeric by 2025.
    • School students will only going to attend the exams in class 2nd, 5th and 8th instead of every academic year.
    • Board examinations will continue for 10th and 12th classes. But it will re- designed. The examination will held twice a year and have two parts one is objective and other one is descriptive.
    • The meaning of the policies to reduce the curriculum law of the students and allow them to be more interdisciplinary and multi lingual
    • In 6th class coding will introduced to the students and experimental learning will be adopted.
    • Mid day meal scheme will extend to include breakfast. More focus will be given to the health of the student through the deployment of counsellors and social workers.

Main Features Of National Education Policy

  • Higher education reform
    • A four year multi disciplinary Bachelors degree in an undergraduate program with multiple exit options
      • A certificate after completion of 1 year.
      • A diploma after completion of 2 year
      • A bachelor degree after completion of 3 year
      • A 4 year multi disciplinary bachelor degree (the preferred option)
    • Now m Phil course will be discontinued to align degree.
    • A Higher Education Commission of India will set up to regulate the higher education.
    • The council goal will be to increase the growth enrollment ratio in higher education degree courses.
    • National Higher education regulatory Council will regulates higher education including teacher education which excludes medical and legal education.
    • Higher education grant Council for funding and financing of University and colleges which is going to replace the existing National Council for teacher education, All India Council for Technical Education and University grant Commission.
    • General education council will frame graduate attributes
    • Other PSSB’s will include professional councils such as veterinary Council of India the council of architecture the India council of agriculture research and the national council for vocational education and training.
    • The additional responsibility will now perform by the national testing agencies of conducting entrance examination for admission to universities across the country in addition to the JEE Mains and NEET.
    • This policy proposes to internationalize education in India.
    • Foreign university can set up their campuses in India.
    • The fee of both private universities and public University is will be fixed.

Stages Of National Education

The New Education Policy 2024 is based on 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 model. Which is going to implement as mention below:

  • Foundation stage- add the foundation stage the education is further subdivided into two parts which is called 3 years of Pre school or Anganwadi follow by class 1 and 2 in primary school. It will cover 3 to 8 years of child education which is focused on activity based learning.
  • Preparatory stage- students from class 3rd to 5th will cover in this stage. This will gradually introduce subjects like speaking reading writing physical education language at science and mathematics.
  • Middle stage- From class 6th to 8th the students will introduce to the more abstract concepts in the subject of mathematics science social science arts and humanities.
  •  Secondary stage- students from class 9th to 12th will cover under this stage in which students from class 9th and 10th will cover in first phase and second phase will for 11th and 12th class students. In this stage the students will intend to inculcate multi disciplinary study couple with depth and critical thinking. Multiple subjects option will provide to the students at this stage.
