UPSC NDA, CDS Notification 2024
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) administers the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam twice a year as a nationwide entrance exam. The Indian Armed Forces, which comprise the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force recruit officers through this examination. There are two components to the CDS exam, a written exam and an interview. The written exam consists of three papers such as elementary mathematics, general knowledge and English. It is administered offline. Each paper has a two hour time limit and 100 possible points. The Services Selection Board (SSB) conducts the interview, which consists of a battery of tests meant to evaluate a candidate’s intelligence, leadership potential and personality.

Eligibility Criteria
Nationality:
- Citizens of India, subjects of Nepal/Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who arrived in India prior to 1 January 1962 intending to settle there permanently and people of Indian descent who came from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire and Vietnam
Educational Qualification:
- For Officers Training Academy and I.M.A: graduation from an accredited university, in any field or an equivalent
- About the Indian Naval Academy: Engineering degree from a reputable university or institution
- For the Academy of the Air Force: a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a 10+2 concentration in mathematics and physics, or Engineering Bachelor’s degree
Age Limit:
- As of 01 July 2023 20 to 24 years. The official announcement PDF will provide detailed information on the age limit.
Marital Status and Sex:
- The Indian Naval and Military Academies: Only single men are qualified.
- The Indian Air Force Academy: Males who are single or married may apply, however getting married while in training is prohibited.
- The Officer Training Academy: Men and women who are single may apply.
Selection Process:
Written Examination:
Applicants must first do exceptionally well on the written test, which consists of multiple choice questions evaluating candidate’s achievement of English, general knowledge and elementary mathematics. Every academy takes the written test in a different way.
Interview/Personality Test:
The Services Selection Board (SSB) shortlists qualified applicants from the written exam for an interview and personality test. At this point, applicants are evaluated on their leadership abilities, officer like attributes and fitness for a career in the military. Personal interviews, group conversations and a variety of exercises are all part of the interview test.
Documents Verification:
Candidates who have been shortlisted must turn in their original documents for validation, including proof of age, diplomas from recognized schools and other pertinent records.
Medical Examination:
A military hospital conducts a comprehensive medical check on candidates who pass the personality test and interview in order to evaluate their suitability for service. Candidate compliance with the physical and medical requirements for military duty is ensured by the medical examination.
Final Merit List:
The results of the written exam, personality test and physical examination are used to make the final decision. Candidates are given seats at the various academies according to their ranks and preferences once a merit list has been created.
